Doug on GMail...
If you need a break from coding, analysis or writing papers as the semester draws to a close, check out Doug's post on GMail: "Why I switched to gmail". I couldn't have said it better... (I don't have a joint professorship at UCB CS and SIMS either!).
I tried to think of things I don't like about GMail and had a difficult time...
[More:]
One of the very few problems I have with using GMail is when I forget to download an attachment or something and don't have network access. This has lead to me being a little trigger-happy with respect to downloading attachments before travel or non-networkability of any sort. Believe it or not, this actually helps me organize content and prepare for engagements where I might not have my email at hand.
The only other GMail complaint I can think of is when they change minor details... all of a sudden there's only one spell check link, or the default text-entry box changes and shoves stuff off-screen. But that is, by far, minor considering what GMail does for me... and, I admit, I do a lot of filtering out of my inbox and, like Doug, a few special people get instantly filtered into the Trash.
Ahhhh, web services.
