Thurston Moore on Sharing...

music

(Cross-posted here to The Challenge of P2P blog)

More than a few of us in this class are either musicians, past musicians or music enthusiasts... so you can imagine that I was heartened to see this quote in the most recent Wired magazine from Thurston Moore, one of the members of a band, Sonic Youth, that holds the most coveted musical position in my heart (from "The Best 90 Minutes of My Life"):

Once again, we're being told that home taping (in the form of ripping and burning) is killing music. But it's not: It simply exists as a nod to the true love and ego involed in sharing music with friends and lovers. Trying to control music sharing - by shutting down P2P sites or MP3 blogs or BitTorrent or whatever other technology comes along - is like trying to control an affair of the heart. Nothing will stop it.
