KDFC Music News: Bill Gates Invades the Opera in Boston

music

This was just too good to relegate to the linkblog:

Opera fans at Boston's Cutler Majestic Theatre thought they were there for a Teatro Lirico d'Europa performance of Puccini's La boheme, but thanks to a buggy supertitling system, many may have thought they'd been transported to a Microsoft product rollout instead.

The system is meant to provide automatic translation of the Italian libretto into English for the benefit of the audience. Instead, as the Boston Herald reported, the caption "Microsoft Windows" faded up ominously over the proscenium during the first act. Then, a Norton Anti-Virus scan ran hugely on the wall during the entirety of soprano Steffanie Pearce's performance of Mimi's aria, "Si, mi chiamano Mimi".

The Herald gleefully suggested that the opera company dump Bill Gates and get themselves a Mac Mini.
