Freakin' Diebold security...
There's a new report out on the security of Diebold voting machines... and things aren't pretty ("Security Poor in Electronic Voting Machines, Study Warns" by JOHN SCHWARTZ). An election could be easily disrupted or even stolen by maldoers inside or outside of the elections process. As well, the Red Team -- a crack team of computer hackers that run a system through the works -- was "genuinely surprised at the basic level of the exploits" that allowed tampering. In the end, they recommended that Diebold re-write it's entire code-base to conform with standard industry security standards and official paper records to verify the vote. Be very afraid... if the vote is controlled in the same manner that the three branches of government are... we're terminally screwed! Posted by joebeone at Enero 29, 2004 10:10 PM
