NASA's organizational failure

Well, it's my blog and I'm going to write about my new paper which just came out yesterday.

In this article I talk about how trying to operate with an Apollo-era organization with limited funds has doomed human spaceflight at NASA. I further suggest that NASA needs severe change now, when the moment is ripe and during a stand-down in human spaceflight (What better time to acknowledge, "We've got big problems... and we're going to need serious solutions.").

Interestingly enough, I wrote this paper for AnnaLee Saxenian's "Group and Organizational Approaches to Information System Use" class (which is offered this Spring, UC Berkeleyites! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED). The more I think about it, the more I realize... there are plenty of organizations that have weathered very hard times and gone through restructuring, merging and other types of strategic organizational change, why not NASA? Just look at Silicon Valley...
